At the 87th Academy Awards Ceremony in 2015, Birdman won the Best Picture Award. The film is co-written, co-produced, and directed by the Mexican film director Alejandro González Iñárritu. It stars Michael Keaton as the former movie star Riggan Thomson, famous for playing the superhero Birdman in his younger days.

Birdman and The Grand Budapest Hotel were both nominate for 9 Academy Awards, and both won 4 Academy Awards.

Another notable Academy Award Winners were Eddie Redmayne for his magnificent role as Stephen Hawking in the movie The Theory of Everything and Patricia Arquette for Best Supporting Actress in Boyhood.

American Sniper, the war drama film based on the life of Chris Kyle and directed by Clint Eastwood, was nominated in six categories, but walked away with only one award for Best Sound Editing.
