Georgia Road Signs Quiz – The Road Signs You Must Know

An octagon (eight-sided shape) always means stop.

When you come to it, you must make a complete stop at a marked stop line. If there is no stop line, stop before the crosswalk on your side of the intersection. If there is no crosswalk, stop at a point from which you can best see oncoming traffic.

This three-sided sign is shaped like a pennant. The sign is on the left side of the highway and marks the beginning of a no-passing zone. You must complete a passing maneuver before reaching this sign.

Horizontal rectangles typically give directions or information.

When vertical, signs provide instructions or tell you the law.

Yellow is for general warning and advisory of unexpected roadway conditions. School warning signs can also be fluorescent green with black markings.

Warning signs for construction and maintenance projects are orange with black markings.

Pentagon-shaped signs mean you are approaching a school zone or crossing. You will see them at least 150 feet before the school grounds or crossing. Look for pedestrians on both sides of the street when approaching school zones and other places people are likely to walk.

There is a yield sign ahead. Slow down and prepare to stop if necessary.

Blue and red signs indicate that the route is part of the national system of interstate and defense highways. These highways join centers of population and defense establishments. They also join the major international highways at the Mexican and Canadian borders. They are part of a nationwide network of the most important highways.

Merging Traffic sign. Traffic merging from the right. Prepare to allow traffic to merge safely.

Reverse turn. This sign tells you there is a sharp turn to the left and then a sharp turn to the right. Reduce speed and look well ahead.

The sign is used to warn of a sharp turn.

Deer crossing.

These signs alert drivers in advance of areas where animals may be crossing.

T-Intersection.

The road you travel on ends ahead. Slow down and prepare to yield or stop before turning right or left.

Two-way Traffic.

Warning that you are leaving a separated one-way highway and will soon be driving on a two-way highway. Also used to remind drivers they are on a two-way road.

Remember, you should drive in the right-hand lane and expect oncoming traffic in the left-hand lane.

The divided highway ends.

The divided road ends ahead. Two-way traffic will no longer be divided by a center island. You will be on an undivided roadway with two-way traffic. Keep to the right.

Lane-use control signals are special signals posted by the side of the road or overhead. They indicate whether you should or should not drive in a specific lane. A green arrow means you can use the lane. A red X means you cannot.

A flashing yellow X means the lane is only for turning. A steady yellow X means that the use of the lane is changing, and you should move out of it when it is safe to do so.

The one-way sign indicates streets or roadways where traffic can only travel in one direction. You may travel only in the direction of the arrow.

You are approaching an area where a reduced speed limit is established. Be prepared to comply with the posted speed limit ahead.

You may also see a yellow warning sign instead of this black and white sign.

When two or more traveling lanes are available in your direction, slower traffic should travel in the right (outside) lane(s).

Keep Left.

Traffic is required to keep to the left of medians or obstructions.

No Turn on Red.

You may not turn right or left during the red light. You must wait for the signal to turn green.
